CAYA - Take a Stand! ... WeBexit Is Alive and Well!

Dear Lost Souls,

Despite the rather dismal state of our cousins' efforts 'across the pond', the WeBexit movement remains alive and well in the hearts of Haberdites everywhere! Have no doubt! The Ocean View section of West Berkeley will not forget the City of Berkeley's forced annexation of or our neighborhood in 1878, and we will not remain quiet as our sovereign civic rights are ignored! While it is true that the San Pablo Avenue Backstop remains unresolved as a proposed hard border, the passion and determination that was ignited nearly three years ago, in June of 2016, at the beginning of the WeBexit movement, remains vibrant and emboldened.

Yes, my Punchy Proletariates, CAYA is on for this evening. Cocktails will be served at 7:30pm. Please feel free to march by for a quickie en route to your evening's primary WeBexit demonstrations, or to linger till liberty comes!

Yours,
Los CabaƱeros

Dear Lost Souls,

On the occasion of the bottling of the Haberdashery Brew Company's latest offering, our Ocean View Porter, we are reminded of WeBe's proud history as Ocean View, California . . .

Before the I880 freeway, before the Berkeley Marina (landfill), and before the bay bridges were built . . . the community of Ocean View, with its quaint harbor at the foot of Delaware Street (currently Spenger's) and sprawling pier was nestled up against the mighty Bay of San Francisco, with a sunset view out through the picturesque Golden Gate (pre-bridge!) . . . simpler times in an outpost town on the outer rim of a country still establishing a national identity and finding its place in the world. The Haberdashery’s hallowed gathering hall was bay-front property (now the shore of Aquatic Park), with sand dunes and salt flats out beyond the back porch. Come take a look yourself! Oh, the images you’ll find in a glass of our fine WeBe brew!

Yes, my Merry Mariners, Cocktail Hour is on for this Friday evening. And so we toast a bit of history, a bit of nostalgia for the innocence of an adolescent nation, and a bit of hope for the adventures that yet await on our individual and collective voyages out beyond the Golden Gate . . . and into the great unknown.

Cocktails will be served at 7:30pm. Please feel free to stop by for a quickie en route to your primary Friday port of call . . . or to find anchor in the Haberdashery’s protect harbor indefinitely.

Yours!
Los CabaƱeros
