Come As You Are; Mardi Gras 2012; T-3 Days

Dear Lost Souls,

It's Cajun Christmas time! . . . Only three days until the 2012 Haberdashery Mardi Gras Party, on Saturday, February 25^th. Technically, Fat Tuesday was yesterday . . . but we can say the west coast is a couple of days behind!

Gumbo is not just a dish . . . it is a menage of flavors, people and ideas. Come experience the Haberdashery's brand of social alchemy and Luuuusiana hospitality first hand. Musicians, be sure to bring along your instruments! The weather forecast looks promising and we are planning a live music jam in the back courtyard.

As always, Cocktail Hour is still on for this Friday evening . . . as we start the prep and ramp up for the main event on Saturday.

Schedule:

Friday evening, Feb. 24^th: There will be Cocktail Hour as usual. For those of you interested in the Festival of the Roux, and other cooking secrets from the Big Easy, this is the time to come. Chop, chop chop.

Saturday, Feb. 25^th: This is an all day affair . . . give or take a day . . . so feel free to come and go as you please. Beginning whenever we crawl out of bed, there will be Mimosas, Screwdrivers and Bloodies for those that arrive before noon . . . or whenever. The food will start to be served in the mid-afternoon. There will be the usual fair of gumbo, jambalaya, red beans, etc. . . . whenever they are ready . . . and lagniappe. Yea, yea . . . and there will be LOTS of bread pudding for the ladies.

Dress Code: Well, there is no dress code, and you can wear whatever the hell you want, but this is Mardi Gras . . . so festive attire is appropriate! In general, this could mean carnival masks, and/or your favorite colorful wig . . . pull out that old sequined party dress (e.g. flapper style), a boa, feather tiara . . . a dapper hat or sport coat . . . or just show up in jeans and a t-shirt!!!! . . . the point is to relax and have a good time. We will have some beads and other parade trinkets on hand to distribute.

WARNING: Friday night can be detrimental to Saturday . . . and should be avoided or taken in moderation if your intent is a full-on Saturday.

We are only ten days out, so mark your calendar and start your taper!

CAYA; Oh Me Oh My – 49 years! . . . and Prop 8

Dear Lost Souls,

This week, a special toast goes up to Kathleen and Gene Delaune on their 49^th Wedding Anniversary! God bless em’!! Despite political gyrations, and the battles surrounding CA Proposition 8, somehow the institution of marriage has managed to survive. And what better proof than theirs? . . . that Love supersedes the turbulence of time, politics, and nudging three children out of the nest.

In their honor . . . and in celebration of Love’s triumph over the narrow minded . . . the Haberdashery will consummate our own sacred union, with that CAYA brand of alchemical affection. Whether you prefer something traditional, straight, a bit fruity, hard on the rocks, vigorously shaken, lowball and smooth, or up and neat . . . Los Cabañeros will be on hand to realize your Cocktail Dreams. . . bending over backwards to deliver satisfaction. Its liable to be a long night . . . (no spectators, please).
