The Haberdashery 3.0; ⚜️Mardi Gras 2021 Sunday Porch Concert

CANCELED!!!! . . .

Dear Lost Souls,

My apologies for the Haberdite Head Fake . . . but the conditions here in New Orleans are not conducive for a porch concert, and the sound/video guy is not feeling well. That's show business!!! Apparently this Bacchus and Cupid match up is NOT off to a good start! 💘

Have a great Valentine's Day ❤️and a great Mardi Gras! . . . and we will keep you posted on upcoming events.

~

Dear Lost Souls,

In an extraordinary cosmic alignment, not hither to experienced since the New Kingdom of the Egyptian Empire, and in direct contradiction of their respective associated alignments of celebratory tendencies invoking physical proximity aggregation, 2021 Mardi Gras Sunday this year falls directly on the same day as Valentines Day. . . . wait for it . . .  in the year of COVID. It is as if, in some bawdry and sadistic intersectional theater piece of denied joyful masochism, Bacchus and Cupid meet for the first time in the modern era at the initial convening of their treatment program  . . . well, you get the idea.
'Which all sounds like a 'damn good reason to let yourself cut lose for another epic afternoon of swingin' on the porch with James Williams and the New Orleans Swamp Donkeys. 'Cher, please come and join us for some 2021 Mardi Gras cheer at the The Haberdashery . . . fondly remembering the revelry of years past, and toasting a future when we will all, once again, gather to laugh and love and dance and sing in a sweaty may-lay of shared euphoria that always was, and always will be, the way that it should be.

Yes, my Carnival Carnivores, CAYA is on for this week! The Haberdashery 3.0 is pleased to host the James' Gang for another round of homespun music mayhem. The band will turn on the porch, and light up the street from 3-5pm Central Time, Sunday, ❤️ February 14th, ❤️ (tomorrow). Please grab your valentine, or valentino, or valentina . . . or whatever the hell you are in to! Just find your way there via the eithers all the way to James Williams' FB page . . . or in the physical realm, all the way to 2705 Magazine Street, to join us for an afternoon of music and good cheer.

Please share news about the gig on your networks, and don't forget to show your appreciation, via the tip jar, for these hard working and celebrated New Orleans musician who are missing the back-to-back nonstop gigs of a normal Mardi Gras season that typically helps them pay the bills for the rest of the year. Thank you for tipping the band via their Venmo or PayPal accounts.

Yours,
Los Cabañeros

The Haberdashery 3.0; NOLA Style ⚜️ Porch Concert 1.24.21

  . . . and, we're back . . .

Dear Lost Souls,

It's Mardi Gras season in New Orleans, and though COVID has precipitated the cancelation of most of the festivities, James Williams and the New Orleans Swamp Donkeys are helping The Haberdashery bring some music and light into the world with our very first porch concert this Sunday, January 24th, from 3-5pm Central Time (tomorrow). Please join us virtually through the interwebs on James Williams' FB page for an afternoon of music and good cheer. Mardi Gras cancelations have resulted in VERY hard times for New Orleans' musical culture bearers, so please be generous when you tip the band through the their Venmo or PayPal accounts.

Yes, my Wandering Wondering Wilburys, CAYA is on for this week! Welcome to The Haberdashery 3.0! . . . coming to you from 2705 Magazine Street, in New Orleans' historic Garden District where, in the waining hours of 2020, we settled in for the next chapter of our celestial odyssey of sound, light, and craft cocktails. 'And so dawns a new day . . .  a new era of possibility for our international community of cherished Haberdites . . . vagabonds, ne're-do-wells, and minstrels . . . fellow cosmonauts on our little blue marble, hurtling through the universe towards nowhere . . . but always able to find a bit of precious repose under the dappled shade and shadow of our low expectations and eclectic wishing stars.

⚜️ Laissez les bon temps rouler! ⚜️

Yours,
Los Cabañeros

Photos from the 2020 Mardi Gras . . . That Never Was

Dear Lost Souls,

Behold the charming photo archive* from a bygone era ‘long ago’, when Haberdites hugged, kissed, shared food and drink, and danced cheek to cheek to the rhythms of Mardi Gras 2020. What joyful fellowship did shine from that special leap year celebration that might never have been . . . but for the whimsical dance of the celestial spheres.

But alas, just as the winds of fortune may shift with the whimsy of the fates, so is it that this fine gathering of Haberdite demigods and minstrel warriors was destined to be the Swan Song of The Haberdashery 2.0; a farewell like no otherand with which we could not be more satisfied.

The curtain is closing on The Haberdashery 2.0. If you happened to have been there, we hope that you carry fond memories, and that you will be kind in the retelling. If you missed it, then I’m sure the stories that you hear will be that much sweeter, seasoned with nostalgia. But fret not. ‘The Haberdashery Shall Rise Again . . . and when we do, we’ll be sure to give you a shout! Thank you all for making this year’s celebration the pinnacle of The Haberdashery’s Golden Age.

CAYA: 🎭  Celebrate the Mardi Gras Season with a Haberdashery Brew Co Tasting

Dear Lost Souls,

Mardi Gras Season is here! . . . and after an extensive process of focus groups, comprehensive polling, exhaustive studies, and astrological consultation, the Haberdashery Board has identified February 29th as the destiny for a special leap year Mardi Gras celebration. Tonight, in deference of this once in a lifetime alignment of the celestial spheres, the terrestrial calendar, and our ephemeral whims, our resident alchemists will be hosting a limited tasting of two new Haberdashery Brewing Company creations.

Chaise Rouge is a rich and flavorful red ale inspired by the Haberdashery's warm glow of low expectations. Fukushima Porter is a humble homage to our resident Brew Master (and BBQ Pit Boss), Bob Fukushima, whose quality contributions to the Haberdashery's food and beverage offerings over the last two decades are as immeasurable as they are innumerable. Come join as we raise a toast to help ring in the Chinese New Year and march intrepidly towards Mardi Gras 2020!

No CAYA This Week; T-35 Days to The Haberdashery Mardi Gras Party

Dear Lost Souls,

Research, research, research… it just never ends! There will be no Cocktail Hour this week, as we are in New Orleans engaged in extensive R&D and dedicated field work. Be assured that we are here working tirelessly to pursue the best interests of our global Haberdite community!!

Please be sure to 'save the date' and mark your calendar on March 2nd as the (tentative) date for the 2019 Haberdashery Mardi Gras Party. We will be following up in the coming weeks with additional details and information. Thank You! 🃏 . . . Happy Actual Mardi Gras! ... and Photo Share Info

Dear Lost Souls,

Happy actual Mardi Gras! . . . Thank you so much for making our Tricentennial celebration a beautiful day to remember!

NOTE: There will be no Cocktail Hour this Friday evening, in honor of the beginning of the lenten season ... and the fact that we have other plans! ;-)

Many thanks to all of you that made it out on Saturday! Judging from the great music and the outrageous quantity of food consumed, the party exceeded all expectations ... and we hope you enjoyed some sweet chaos. Please upload to this GDrive folder any pictures that you would like to include in a 'best of 2018' album that we are compiling (and to which we can all share access), adding perhaps your name or initials in the photo name (or of a new folder) so that we can acknowledge you. Thanks!

Special appreciation for all of you who helped with food prep, setup, decoration, and cleanup!!! . . . and most of all, deep thanks to our gracious and talented musicians ... you were phenomenal!!!! We could not pull off any of this without all of your generous contributions!!!!

There are only 384 days until Mardi Gras 2019 ... so now go beat the rush and start training today!!

Yours!Los Cabañeros

Haberdashery Mardi Gras 2018 🃏 & New Orleans Tricentennial Celebration

Dear Lost Souls,

Mardi Gras is here! . . . The Haberdashery celebrates New Orleans' Tricentennial!

300 years in the making, you are cordially and officially invited to join us for our 9th annual Fête Extravaganza, celebrating the highpoint of the Haberdashery's frivolous year ... and 300 years of bons temps rouler! Please join your fellow Haberdites from near and far as we gather to pay homage to the royalty of New Orleans Carnival with a fanfare of great live music and Cajun cuisine! Here are some details to whet your appetite!

Friday, February 9th
  • 7:30pm – 12:00am – The Taming of the Roux (CAYA Cocktail Hour, Saturday prep, and a Cajun cooking primer)

Saturday, February 10th
  • 11:00am – 10:00pm – all-day Mardi Gras Party including live music jams, DJ Mr. Fabulous, & plenty-o good food . . . and Lagniappe!
  • (3:00pm – 7:00pm) – Prime period of feasting!

COME JOIN THE CAYA GUMBO!
Gumbo is not just a dish . . . it is a ménage of flavors, people and ideas. Come experience the Haberdashery's brand of social alchemy and Loooousiana hospitality first hand. We already have an outstanding lineup of live music planned, but any musicians are encouraged to bring along their instruments for informal jams throughout the day and evening! We are scheduling bright sunny weather to compliment the live music on the Garden Stage. DJ Mr. Fabulous will also be on hand to spice up the mix in the Red Room.

WARNING: Please be prepared to shake your booty . . . this is not a spectator sport.

DETAILED SCHEDULE:
  • Friday evening, February 9th: There will be Friday Night Cocktail Hour as usual. For those of you interested in the The Taming of the Roux, and other cooking secrets from The Big Easy, this is the time to come. Chop, chop chop!! WARNING: Friday night can be detrimental to Saturday . . . and should be taken in moderation, particularly if your intent is a full-on Saturday.
  • Saturday, February 10th: This is an all day affair . . . give or take a day . . . so feel free to come and go as you please; children are more than welcome; particularly during the daylight hours (before storytime). In the morning, beginning whenever we crawl out of bed, there will be Mimosas, Screwdrivers and Bloody Marys for those that venture out before noon . . . or whenever. We will start the primary serving of food in the mid-afternoon. There will be the usual fair of Gumbo, Jambalaya, Red Beans & Rice, etc. . . . whenever they are ready . . . and of course, lagniappe . . . yea, yea . . . and there will be LOTS of NOLA Bread Puddin' for the ladies.
WHAT TO BRING: . . . Hurricanes are in the forecast and we will have a beer selection from Sierra Nevada on tap  . . . but your favorite beverage contribution is always much appreciated, so please bring along other libations to share (we will have coolers and ice on hand). There will copious amounts of food, beads, and Hurricanes. There will also be plenty 'o munchies, but if you are feeling particularly motivated, feel free to add a little something extra (lagniappe!)! . . . but, for GOD SAKE, please take home your beads and Tricentennial Commemorative Mardi Gras cup!!! They are our Mardi Gras gift to you!!

Musicians! - Bring your instruments. There will be live music and informal jams galore!
Face painters! - bring your paints . . . nothing says Mardi Gras like some beautiful painted people!
Amateur photographers! - bring your cameras . . . there will lots of colorful scenes to record!

DRESS CODE: Well! . . . there is no dress code, and you can wear whateva' the hell you want . . . but this IS Mardi Gras . . . so festive attire is certainly appropriate! In general, this could mean anything from animal onesies to carnival masks, and/or your favorite colorful wig . . . pull out that old sequined party dress (e.g. flapper style), a boa, feather tiara . . . a dapper hat or sport coat . . . Seersucker is always encouraged! HOPPE style! . . . or just show up in jeans and a t-shirt!!!! . . . the point is to relax and have a good time. We will have lots of beads and other parade trinkets on hand to accessorize.

As always, please feel free to stop by for a quickie . . . on Friday or Saturday; or to linger indefinitely.

Yours!
Los Cabañeros
