😷 CAYA in Place; The Last Stand

Dear Lost Souls,

Greetings from the Haberdashery Multiverse! 🖖🏼 Come As You Are . . . and stay where ya'll at!
This evening, June 19th, 2020, will be The Haberdashery's last Come As You AreFriday Night Cocktail Hour (and broadcast) hosted from 2124 5th street, Berkeley, California. Some of you were there at the beginning of CAYA 2.0 on September 13, 2011, in this location. Some of you were there in the halcyon days of CAYA 1.0, in a time that now seems so, so long ago. We will miss these hallowed halls. But we also know that this is only the beginning, and we look forward to exploring the yet unimaginable adventures that await us in The Haberdasher 3.0 Multiverse! 🚀🚀🚀

Yes, my Humble Haberdites CAYA is on for this evening. Please join us at 7:30pm, as we kick off the evening with a special cocktail selection, and a solemn toast to Liberation Day (or Juneteenth). With the current pain, division, uncertainty, and injustice that threatens to shred the very fabric of our nation, we pray that this Juneteenth will be cause for celebration for centuries to come: As the day that we set a new course for the nation: A day that helped us realize that every one of us are bound as stewards to the founding ideals and precarious liberties that this nation's Constitution purports to guarantee. And, unless we are all free and protected from injustice, no-one is free or safe from tyranny. Not just as a nation, but as a species whose completely interdependent survival on this fragile planet is a never ending dance on the precarious road to human enlightenment.

Please join us by tuning into your Last Resort from your sequestration sanctuary on our dedicated Haberdashery Zoom channel (Meeting ID#: 510 646 5316) at 7:30pm PST. Feel free to casually join the conversation or melt back to your corner of the Multiverse whenever you like. We will maintain the wormhole opening all evening (round'about midnight), or until after the last Haberdite signs off.

We are all making this up as we go. But, with a long pour of compassion, a shot of empathy, and more-than-a-dash of patience . . . though we may emerge shaken or stirred . . . our community of Haberdites will navigate this gauntlet of isolation with poise and dignity . . . and an adult beverage in hand.

Now be safe out there . . . and above all else . . . be kind to one another, my fellow Haberdites!

Yours,
Los Cabañeros

😷 CAYA in Place; Love in the Time of Gemini

Dear Lost Souls,

Greetings from the Haberdashery Multiverse! 🖖🏼 Come As You Are . . . and stay where ya'll at!

It's Gemini season again ... that glorious time of the year when all of the other lesser zodiac signs appropriately acknowledge the glorious and benevolent supremacy and humble genius of Geminis . . . so impressive. This evening, to mark the sublime joy of the season, we will be inclusively hoisting a toast to Geminis everywhere. Non-Geminis should feel welcome to join us and are encouraged to participate while demonstrating the proper level of deference.

Yes, my Zealots of the Zodiac CAYA is on for this evening. Please join us at 7:30pm sharp, as we kick off the evening with a cosmically appropriate alchemical tutorial. You can tune into your Last Resort from your sequestration sanctuary on our dedicated Haberdashery Zoom channel (Meeting ID#: 510 646 5316) at 7:30pm PST. Feel free to casually join the conversation or melt back to your corner of the Multiverse whenever you like. 😷 CAYA in Place; The Times They are a Changing

Dear Lost Souls,

Greetings from the Haberdashery Multiverse! 🖖🏼 Come As You Are . . . and stay where ya'll at!

The last seven days of violence, turmoil, and abuse of power have been some of the most difficult that many Americans have ever seen in their lives. The concern expressed by some of our more enlightened top military, spiritual, and community leaders underscores the impermanence of any republic. Without vigilance, commitment, and sacrifice, this imperfect union could very well be entering the twilight of this ongoing and fragile experiment in democracy, just 244 years in the making. May we take heart that despite all of the political incompetence and incendiary rhetoric, there are voices of reason in the upper levels of the military, law enforcement, municipal leadership, and community activism. There is great cause for hope . . . tempered by a profound danger to our constitution.

Let us gather this evening and raise a toast of hope ... not for a return to a distorted system characterized by unequal access to our shared rights and resources, which many had accepted as an unavoidable compromise on the road towards reform ... but for a new way forward, and a 'reset' of our American journey, beginning with a zero tolerance stance on the application of basic human rights, as well as redoubling of our commitment to the constitutional protections and liberties that should extend to all who call this country home.

Yes, my Humble HaberditesCAYA is on for this evening. Please join us at 7:30pm sharp, as we kick off the evening with a alchemical tutorial and a toast to our great nation. 😷 CAYA in Place; Pandemic Memorial Day

Dear Lost Souls,

Greetings from the Haberdashery Multiverse! 🖖🏼 Come As You Are . . . and stay where ya'll at!
These are serious times, when individual actions have serious consequences . . . including putting the lives of others at real risk. Counter to all science and logic, a lot of idiots will be out celebrating the long Memorial Day weekend by NOT following guidelines for social distancing and shelter in place. This does not make one a patriot honoring the American services women and men who died protecting our rights and freedoms, it just makes you an entitled prick who does not mind the fact that tens of thousands of our fellow Americans are yet to needlessly die from the irresponsible behavior of others. Please do not help expand the number of miniature American flags in our cemeteries. Please do not recklessly endanger our family and loved ones with preexisting conditions. Please stay the fuck home . . . and join us for a cocktail!

Yes my Pandemic PatriotsCAYA is on for this evening. Please join us (at 7:30pm sharp) as we kick off our Memorial Day weekend celebration with The Haberdashery's twist on the classic gin sour. Be sure to Chill Before You Fill! . . . and to tune in to The Last Resort from your sequestration sanctuary on our dedicated Haberdashery Zoom channel (Meeting ID#: 510 646 5316) at 7:30pm PST. Feel free to casually join the conversation or melt back to your corner of the Multiverse whenever you like. Photos from the 2020 Mardi Gras . . . That Never Was

Dear Lost Souls,

Behold the charming photo archive* from a bygone era ‘long ago’, when Haberdites hugged, kissed, shared food and drink, and danced cheek to cheek to the rhythms of Mardi Gras 2020. What joyful fellowship did shine from that special leap year celebration that might never have been . . . but for the whimsical dance of the celestial spheres.

But alas, just as the winds of fortune may shift with the whimsy of the fates, so is it that this fine gathering of Haberdite demigods and minstrel warriors was destined to be the Swan Song of The Haberdashery 2.0; a farewell like no otherand with which we could not be more satisfied.

The curtain is closing on The Haberdashery 2.0. If you happened to have been there, we hope that you carry fond memories, and that you will be kind in the retelling. If you missed it, then I’m sure the stories that you hear will be that much sweeter, seasoned with nostalgia. But fret not. ‘The Haberdashery Shall Rise Again . . . and when we do, we’ll be sure to give you a shout! Thank you all for making this year’s celebration the pinnacle of The Haberdashery’s Golden Age.

Yours!

* A special thank you to Melanie and Shahand for your photo contributions. Our apologies if we missed any other photo credits.

Dear Lost Souls,

Greetings from the Haberdashery Multiverse! 🖖🏼 Come As You Are . . . and stay where ya'll at!
Sooo . . . while our enthusiasm about re-opening The Haberdasherymay have been oh-so-slightly optimistic, we are bolstered by the spectacular spring weather and encouraged by signs that we are getting a handle on the pandemic. Right??? ... right!!??

Oh ... and apparently drinking bleach is not a good idea . . . live and learn (or not)! So, while this year we may not be able to all dance together in homage to the rights of Spring, we still invite you to gather around our virtual Maypole for a bit of casual music and fellowship, at yet another installment of CAYA's virtual cocktail hour.

Yes my Dancing DilettantesCAYA is on for this evening. Please join us (at 7:30pm sharp) as we kick off the evening with a special "Mayday!!" cocktail tutorial. Ooooooooh!!! . . . CAYA in Place; Liberate The Haberdashery! 😷

Dear Lost Souls,

Greetings from the Haberdashery Multiverse! 🖖🏼 Come As You Are . . . and stay where ya'll at!

It is with profound relief and pride that The Haberdashery Board of Directors has announced our strategic implementation of the Administration's 'curio of cures'. We are confident that in the coming days we will be able to smuggle adequate supplies of blue lights and disinfectants to the Left Coast to offer up a 5 gallon keg of New Orleans-style Clorocanes 🌪 to our brilliant band of loyal HarberditesAccordinglywe are planning on a carefully planned multi-day phased reopening of The Haberdashery, doing our part to prioritize and restore the national economy, and culminating in a mega bash next Friday evening!!!! . . . demonstrating that social distancing is a liberal hoax!

Yes my Snooty SnowflakesCAYA is on for this evening. Please join us (at 7:30pm sharp) for a cocktail tutorial, as we shake up the Deep State with our signature Clorotini . . . a delicate blend of ammonia, sodium hypochlorite, hydrogen peroxide, and calcium hypochlorite . . . delicately stirred to prevent premature detonation . . . and garnished with a paper-thin shaving of urinal cake . . . best enjoyed under the restorative glow of dappled blue light. Happy days are here again!

But in the mean time! . . . this week you are invited to join us at The Last Resort from your sequestration sanctuary on our dedicated Haberdashery Zoom channel (Meeting ID#: 510 646 5316) at 7:30pm PST. Feel free to fluidly join the conversation or melt back to your corner of the Multiverse whenever you like. CAYA - Schrodinger's Quarantine

Dear Lost Souls,

Greetings from the Haberdashery Multiverse! 🖖🏼 Come As You Are . . . and stay where ya'll at!

Does the economy exist to support the basic needs of each member of our society so that they may best strive to meet their maximum human potential . . . or do humans exist as drones to sacrifice themselves on the altar of unchecked consumerism in service to the care and feeding of abstract monetary indicators? Well kids, we have all been directed to go sit quietly in the corner of the classroom to contemplate this dynamic. This evening, we invite you to join us in Our corner of an edgeless reality, with an adult beverage in hand and the comfort of some live music, to pontificate on the relative absurdity of Schrodinger's quarantine. Fear > Learn > Grow

Yes my Prepackaged ProletariatCAYA is on for this evening. Please join us (at 7:30pm sharp) for a cocktail tutorial, as we slide softly off the edge of a flat earth into the deep welcoming pool of a Mezcal Negroni.

We are not drinking . . . we are learning.

You are invited to join us at The Last Resort from your sequestration sanctuary on our dedicated Haberdashery Zoom channel (Meeting ID#: 510 646 5316) at 7:30pm PST. Feel free to fluidly join the conversation or melt back to your corner of the Multiverse whenever you like. CAYA in Place; Holy Week!

Dear Lost Souls,

Greetings from the Haberdashery Multiverse! 🖖🏼 Come As You Are . . . and stay where ya'll at!

"Good Friday" is always relative . . . but considering the week we've had . . . there was really only room for improvement. From the passing of yet another musical legend, John Prine, to the now likely prospect of candidate Biden being gutted like a fish in the general election, to the dramatic jump in the US Corona death toll, to another series of naked power grabs by 45 . . throw in the usual mix of earthquakes, hurricanes and wars, and you've got the makings for a lovely weekend ride with the four horseman of the apocalypse.
But fear not . . . This evening the Haberdashery will once again offer some minimal respite from the whirlwinds of armageddon as we kick off our Easter celebration in sequestration with some digital fellowship and a crash corse in fluid dynamics. Please join us (at 7:30pm sharp) as we offer a video tutorial on the subtleties of crafting a simply marvelous Caipiriña . . . or Caipirissima . . . or Caipiroska . . . depending upon the state of your depleted alcohol reserves.

We invite you to join us virtually at The Last Resort from your safe haven on our dedicated Haberdashery Zoom channel (Meeting ID#: 510 646 5316) at 7:30pm PST. Feel free to fluidly join the conversation or melt back to your corner of the Multiverse whenever you like. Come As You Are; Lean On Me . . .

Dear Lost Souls,

Greetings from the Haberdashery Multiverse! 🖖🏼 Come As You Are . . . and stay where ya'll at!

This past week two legendary minstrels, jazz patriarch Ellis Marsalis, and R&B great Bill Withers, were called home for their final performance . . . another reminder of how nourishing the arts have been for all of us during each of our respective shelter-in-place odysseys. Please join us tonight as we pay homage to Ellis and Bill, sharing some virtual space and fellowship from our individual multiverses.

We will kick off the evening (at 7:30pm sharp) with a video tutorial on how to conjure a handcrafted 'Perfect'  Manahattan . . . crisp and dry, like we like'm. The City and State of New York are staring down the barrel of a tough few weeks ahead, so we will also be raising a toast to wish Manhattan the strength and fortitude to persevere.
You know it is a dangerous world out there when picnic tables are deemed a public hazard! But just like last week, we invite you to join us virtually from your safe haven at The Last Resort on our dedicated Haberdashery Zoom channel (Meeting ID#: 510 646 5316) at 7:30pm PST. Help us pay musical homage to Ellis or Bill by playing a song for your fellow Haberdites ... and/or just sing along from your respective CAYA Cave.

Feel free to fluidly join the conversation or melt back to your corner of the Multiverse whenever you like. We will maintain the wormhole opening all evening (until about midnight), or until after the last Haberdite signs off. If you have experienced any revelations on how we may harness the endless variety the cosmos for the benefit of future Cocktail Hours, please share those with us.

CAYA in Place; Quarantini ... cha cha cha

Dear Lost Souls,

Come As You Are . . . and stay where ya'll at!
Greatings from the Haberdashery Multiverse! 🖖🏼 After last weeks well-attended (and much appreciated) on-line 'CAYA from your cave', we are back at it again this week. Join us as we begin the evening (at 7:30pm sharp) with a video tutorial on how to make your very own Quarantini . . . a new take on the Classic Haberdashery Martini . . . but made in the comfort of your very own shelter-in-place location. Bonus!! cha

Just as last week, we invite you to join us at 7:30pm PST on our dedicated Haberdashery Zoom channel (Meeting ID#: 510 646 5316) as we gather for a temporally dynamic, apportioned concoction of cocktails, music, and mayhem. Enjoy your new found fame up on the big screen at the Haberdashery Main Stage, as our motley mix of musicians offer up some live tunes from their respective CAYA Caves.

Do you have a unique or charming chess set that is gathering dust in a corner? The Haberdashery is looking for a 'house' set to grace our hallowed halls. Sure, it would be easy to buy one on line, but it would be much more interesting to have one gifted (or on long-term loan) from a member of our community. Please let us know if you have a candidate set that needs exercise . . . or is maybe looking for a new home.

With gratitude,
The Cabaña Boyz

CAYA in Place; Learning to Abide

Dear Lost Souls,

Come As You Are . . . and stay where ya'll at!

Tonight we launch a new era of shelter in place Cocktail Hours broadcast from the bosom of The Last Resort, aka 'CAYA in Place'. To inaugurate the festivities, we invite you to join us at 7:30pm PST on our dedicated Haberdashery Zoom channel (Meeting ID#: 510 646 5316) as we gather ritually for our usual weekly communion of cocktails, music, and mayhem. We will have all of you up on the big screen at the Haberdashery's hallowed hall, and invite our regular musicians to offer up some live tunes from their respective quarantine location. This is a great opportunity for Haberdites from all over the world to finally join us! Feel free to respond to this email, or coordinate separately with our resident Cabaña Boyz to schedule a performance time or coordinate logistics. Tonight we will test a 60-90 minute on-line gathering format. If you have any ideas on how we can organize future remote Cocktail Hours, please share those with us.

Life in quarantine can be monotonous and frustrating. Tonight is about learning to ABIDE. In homage to St. Dude . . . or ‘the Duddah’ in the parlance of our time . . . we will open the evening at 7:30pm Pacific Time (sharp!) with a step-by-step ceremonial sacrifice of Caucasians (White Russians) on the alter of virgin territory.

No one knows what the coming weeks will bring.

No CAYA This Week; It's Quarantini Time! 🍸

Dear Lost Souls,

There will be no Cocktail Hour this evening, as we have other engagements for the weekend. But, be assured that The Haberdashery's crack team of alchemists and pseudoscientists is now formulating our official Covid19 response strategy . . . preparing to deploy a remote mixology protocol (RMP) to be rolled out starting next week. In the mean time, to calm any hysteria, our crisis response team is recommending two very dry Quarantinis . . . administered at regular intervals as needed.

Now be safe out there . . . and above all else . . . be kind to each other, my fellow Haberdites!

Yours,
Los Cabañeros

Thank You for making Mardi Gras 2020 a Big Success

Dear Lost Souls,

Thank you for making the Haberdashery's annual Mardi Gras Fête a big success! Your hosts had a fantastic time, and the consensus is that it was one of the best ever ... if not the top! Our deepest thanks go out to all of our fantastic musicians who put on an amazing show ... as well as some epic jam session.

If you have any favorite pictures or videos to share with us, please send them to: haberdashery2.0@gmail.com. Thank you for sharing!

Also, we have a few found items (see below) that some of you may be missing. Please let us know if you are missing something . . . and otherwise, we'll hope to see you next year.

Yours!

CAYA; Outbreak / Break Out

Dear Lost Souls,

Thank you to all that attended the Mardi Gras fête last Saturday. It was a hoot! We will be sending out an official 'thank you' follow up in the next day or two; but in the mean time ...

The Corona virus threat is now officially sweeping the globe, and so complicating everything from your daily commute, to basic commerce, to the election cycle, to your summer vacation escape . . . and maybe even your Friday evening plans! What a world!!! What is a Haberdite to do? Well, for the time being, the Haberdashery soldiers on in the deliverance of our weekly communion ... stocked with hand sanitizer and armed with purifying spirits to chase away the demons that spread evil throughout the land.

But fear not!! . . . with our stalwart VPOTUS and Great White Knight from Indiana at the helm of our national response, our surefire plan is to pray away this evil scourge, with an everlasting hope for brighter times when we can all return to the grand old days of great American complacency and entitlement ... so we can once again hate our fellow citizens for important things like our ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, and religious preference!  . . . Ma che nostalgia!

Yes, my Anarchists of the Apocalypse, Cocktail Hour is on for this evening. Cocktails will be served starting at 7:30pm. Please feel free to wander on by in your delirium for a quickie en route to your individual destiny, or to linger until the end of days.

Yours,
Los Cabañeros

Dear Lost Souls,

Laissez les Bons Temps Rouler! . . . at the Leap Year Mardi Gras 'That Never Was';

Saturday, February 29th, 12 pm - 12am

You are cordially and officially invited to The Haberdashery's annual Mardi Gras Fête! Come join your fellow Haberdites from near and far as we gather to toast the highpoint of the Haberdashery's calendar of frivolity, and pay homage to the royalty of New Orleans Carnival with a fanfare of epic live music and Cajun cuisine!

NOTE, This year is invitation only . . . to try to manage the crowds a bit better . . . so please let us know if there is someone special that you would like to bring along who may not be included on this mailing list.

L'horaire:

Friday, February 28th
7:30pm – 12:00am – The Taming of the Roux (CAYA Cocktail Hour, Saturday prep, decorating, and a Cajun cooking primer)
Saturday, February 29th
11:00am – 12:00pm – all-day Mardi Gras Party including live music jams, DJ Mr. Fabulous, & plenty-o good food . . . and Lagniappe!

3:00pm – 7:00pm – Primary period of feasting!

COME JOIN THE CAYA GUMBO!
Gumbo is not just a dish . . . it is a ménage of flavors, people and ideas. Come experience the Haberdashery's brand of social alchemy and Loooousiana hospitality first hand. We are scheduling sunny weather and there will be lots of live music in the back courtyard. DJ Mr. Fabulous will also be on hand to spice up the mix. This year we have a particularly strong lineup of live music planned, but musicians be sure to bring along your instruments for the informal jams that inevitably pop up.

WARNING: Be prepared to shake your booty . . . this is not a spectator sport.

DETAILED SCHEDULE:
Friday evening, February 28th There will be Friday Night Cocktail Hour as usual. For those of you interested in the The Taming of the Roux, and other cooking secrets from The Big Easy, this is the time to come. We will also be decorating.
Saturday, February 29th: This is an all day affair . . . give or take a day . . . so feel free to come and go as you please; children are more than welcome; particularly during the daylight hours (before story time). In the morning, beginning whenever we crawl out of bed, there will be Mimosas, Screwdrivers and Bloody Marys for those that venture out before noon . . . or whenever. We will start the primary serving of food in the mid-afternoon. There will be the usual fair of Gumbo, Jambalaya, Red Beans & Rice, etc. . . . whenever they are ready . . . and of course, lagniappe . . . yea, yea . . . and there will be LOTS of NOLA Bread Puddin' for the ladies.
WHAT TO BRING: There will be copious amounts of cajun food, beads, and Hurricanes. There will also be plenty of munchies, but if you are feeling particularly motivated to bring a New Orleans themed dessert, please let us know, so we can plan accordingly ... but otherwise no food contributions are necessary.

. . . Hurricanes are in the forecast! Your favorite beverage contribution is much appreciated (we will have coolers and ice on hand), and there will be plenty of beer on tap. Jim Larson and Billy Rhyne will each be contributing a 5 gallon keg of beer. Let us know if you would like to contribute to a third keg (contact Greg & Anto to coordinate).

. . . and for GOD SAKE, please take home your commemorative 2020 Mardi Gras cup and your selected beads as our gift to you!!

What else?:
Amateur film makers and/or photographers! - bring your cameras . . . there will lots of colorful scenes and we would love to set up a live cam and/or videos for Haberdites around the globe to enjoy vicariously.
Face painters! - bring your paints . . . nothing says Mardi Gras like some beautiful painted people!
DRESS CODE: Well! . . . there is no dress code, and you can wear whatever the hell you want . . . but this IS Mardi Gras . . . so festive attire is appropriate! In general, this could mean anything from animal onesies to carnival masks, and/or your favorite colorful wig . . . pull out that old sequined party dress (e.g. flapper style), a boa, feather tiara . . . a dapper hat or sport coat . . . Seersucker is always encouraged! HOPPE style! . . . or just show up in jeans and a t-shirt!!!! . . . the point is to relax and have a good time. We will have lots of beads and other parade trinkets on hand with which to accessorize.

As always, please feel free to stop by for a quickie . . . on Friday or Saturday; or to linger indefinitely.

Yours!
Los Cabañeros

!!Please drink responsibly and arrange for safe transportation !! . . . your well-being is our first priority!
