to hoist a last toast, and most important of all,

CAYA Christmas Day (12/25) Open House and Supper

Dear Haberdites!

Among our merry band of Mischief Makers, no one is ever truly a Lost Soul! And on Christmas Day most of all (not counting Mardi Gras, of course), we welcome the chance to hoist a glass together in celebration of the season. A last minute travel cancellation has opened the possibility of hosting the cherished all-afternoon Haberdashery Christmas Open House and a small evening feast in the Haberdashery's sacred hall.

A few friends will gather for dinner at around 5pm. If you do not have plans, or find yourself somewhat orphaned, you are very welcome to come join us! . . . please let me know and we will make a special place for you at the table! Otherwise, we invite Haberdites of all ages and beliefs to wander by during the day for a long or short visit to exchange some Christmas cheer, share a Nog, and then be on your way . . . just like Old Saint Nick!

The Boyz are back in town! . . . and in our absence our blushing neighborhood has birthed a new and refreshing venue: The Torpedo Room; a Sierra Nevada Brewery small batch tasting room . . . oooh, the extensive research we will do! To celebrate this promising addition to the local landscape, and to also dutifully and selflessly support our distinguished neighbors, this week we will begin CAYA with a 7pm to 8pm christening visit to the Torpedo Room (just around the corner at 2031 4th Street), and then march in merry procession (at 8pm when the Torpedo Room closes) . . . with a selection of gallon growlers in hand! . . . to the Haberdashery's sacred halls  . . . where in our absence, Haberdashery elves will have dutifully prepared our temple sanctuary with the traditional vestments and accoutrements. After a laughably clumsy coverup of Canadian proportions, unnamed sources have revealed that the crack-smoking mayor of Toronto, The Honorable Rob Ford, is actually a paid operative for the the mock news series, The Daily Show, with John Stewart. Stewart, himself a shameless suckler on the hot mic teet, was caught on microphone commenting, "with Ford on our staff, this show practically writes itself . . . I just show up and read the copy". Further investigation has revealed that this Theatre of idiocy actually extends across much of the northern and western hemisphere to include truthy contributors from Alaska and Minnesota, where for years key politicians in these states (classified by many as parts of Canada, eh!) have been secretly supplying Stewart raw uncut material with a astronomically high comedic street value . . . setting Republican Party policy, evaluating the effectiveness of universal healthcare, and deftly explaining the subtle details of American history. Ted Cruz and Rick Perry, additional 'persons of interest' in the expanding Daily Show investigation could not be reached for comment due to crippling cases of 'foot in the mouth' syndrome.

CAYA; Congress Saves Day Light in a Bipartisan Breakthrough

Dear Lost Souls,

In an earthshaking policy coup d'état that defied all currently held conceptions regarding their level of legislative effectiveness, this past week Congress successfully agreed on a strategy for saving one entire hour of day light. The solar energy implications alone are staggering! The new policy, ratified after a scorching debate, was implemented in the early morning hours of November 3rd. Bipartisan support led to an agreement with representatives of incumbent cosmic and celestial forces by which the sun will now rise one hour earlier in the morning and set one hour later in the evening. In a separate decision, the Haberdashery Board, in a late night session punctuated by Caprese Bruschetta, ratified a decision to embrace Congress's bipartisan breakthrough by holding another special session this coming Friday evening. The Haberdashery's legal analyst, Greg Dolge Esq, could not be reached for comment, but is reported to have slept through the entire proceedings.

On the occasion of the bottling of the Haberdashery Brew Company's latest offering, our Ocean View Porter, we are reminded of WeBe's proud history as Ocean View, California . . .

Before the I880 freeway, before the Berkeley Marina (landfill), and before the bay bridges were built . . . the community of Ocean View, with its quaint harbor at the foot of Delaware Street (currently Spenger's) and sprawling pier was nestled up against the mighty Bay of San Francisco, with a sunset view out through the picturesque Golden Gate (pre-bridge!) . . . simpler times in an outpost town on the outer rim of a country still establishing a national identity and finding its place in the world. In a spirit of independence and with pride in our nation's ongoing experiment in democracy, we welcome the chance to celebrate her on-going birth . . .  sharing her bounty, breaking bread, and hoisting some all-American cocktails in honor of our fragile but enduring union . . . flawed though she may be in her conflict-scarred beauty. CAYAPalooza 2013 - Calling All Musicians!

CALLING ALL MUSICIANS! - Saturday May 11th, 2013:
Arts@TheHaberdashery is pleased to invite you to join us for; CAYAPalooza 2013.

On Saturday May 11^th, The Haberdashery will host an all day open music jam . . . plus some lagnappe! We will have at least two play spaces available for you to jam away the lazy day. This is an invitation only event. Your family and close friends are very welcome to come and share the vibe, but please help us keep the numbers relatively low so that the focus will remain on creating a collaborative music making ‘workshop’ atmosphere, giving you the space to mix it up and explore different genres, as well as to play with new people.

Some details:

• Time: 10:30am – 8:00pm . . . or whenever . . . until the music dies down. Show up early to take advantage of the sun in the back garden!
• Food and beverages: We will have brunch food (and cocktails), random munchies, and some signature grill items and picnic side dishes to share, but the day will be mostly “self-serve”. Please bring along something to share and/or contribute to the barbecue. As always, we’ll have some event-appropriate adult beverages, but your favorite drink contributions are appreciated;
• Who: You’ll recognize some faces from the fantastic jams at this year’s Mardi Gras party; including members of The Horribles, and the Karma Dogs; as well as Bernie and the Haberdites.
• Equipment: Please bring what you need in terms of amps, cords, etc., plus perhaps extra to share in case others are lacking. Song/Fake books are encouraged, to help others jump in on your favorite material;

We hope you can join us!! Please contact us with any questions or clarifications. You are welcome to share this invitation, but please do so thoughtfully and in the spirit of creating a quality jam experience built around passionate collaborative musicians!

Luckily, the sequester has not in anyway penalized the politicians who caused it!! Whew!!! . . . although The President did take a $20,0000 pay cut in solidarity with other fed employees . . . perhaps just a gesture, but a helluva lot more of a gesture than the rest of the impotent peanut gallery!!! Well! . . . The Haberdashery does not trade in blackmail and excuses, nor do we bellyache that the Sequester ate our homework!!! . . . NO SIR!!
