CAYA; Adieu To You Too 2012!

Dear Lost Souls,

WELL! . . . you've survived the Mayan Apocalypse, the War On Christmas, and another holiday dinner with your flatulent Uncle Ernie . . . only to face the dawn of 2013 crammed in the back seat of an economy careening off a fiscal cliff . . . under the steady guidance of The Boner and Pelosi Show. But, don't worry Sweet Virginia, there is still a Cocktail Hour to believe in . . . your a-political, multicultural, post-apocalyptic, fiscally responsible, trans-dimensional oasis in the sanity starved desert of our disaster-strewn temporal reality.

Yes, my Bewildered Bedouins! . . . Cocktail Hour is on for this Friday evening! 2012 was indeed a year to remember . . . AND TO FORGET!! And so . . . for one last gig in 2012 . . . we invite you to The Last Resort; to come find shelter under the Haberdashery's canopy of low expectations . . . dappled with shadowy dreams, chromatic melodies, and beckoning constellations of electric wishing stars. As always, our band of alchemical wizards will be on hand to guide you in the thoughtful pursuit of more ephemeral resolutions . . . to quench the karmic thirsts that are sure to arise in yet another circumnavigation of our smoldering Sol.
Cocktails will be served at 7:30pm. Please feel free to stop by for a quickie en route to your primary Friday night terminus temporalis . . . or to linger indefinitely.

Yours,
Los Cabañero

!! Please drink responsibly and arrange for safe transportation !! . . . your well-being is our first priority!

CAYA; Your Meyer Apocalypso Rally Point . . . and a Haberdashery Plan B

Dear Lost Souls,

This could very well be our final correspondence . . . scratched out in desperate emotion on the eve of the End of Days . . . as we stare woefully down the barrel of our cosmic annihilation. Solemnly, the Haberdashery is honored to have been selected as a post-apocalyptic rallying point for our collective journey to the bosom of Hades. . . no doubt because of our generous cache of "critical supplies". So grab your loved ones, scamper on over, and join us on board the last party barge across the River Styx . . . with a perfectly chilled cocktail of your choice in hand!

Yes, my Denizens of Doom! . . . Cocktail Hour is on for this Friday evening . . . apocalypse or not! . . . A metaphor against a meteor! . . we shall make Meyer Lemon Calypsos out of Mayan lemons . . . Indeed! a "Plan B" worthy of our Merry Band of Haberdites!! . . . one way or another, Saturday is still TBD.

Cosmic annihilation notwithstanding, cocktails will be served at 7:30pm. Please feel free to stop by for a quickie en route to your karmic destiny . . . or to linger indefinitely, indubitably . . . AD INFINITUM!

Yours,
Los Cabañero

CAYA; Countdown to the Mayan Apocalypse! Are you ready?

Dear Lost Souls,

The nature of speech is deception;
for the lens of the spoken word
can never illuminate the true nature
of
limitless ideas conceived out of pure thought

But when the veil is lifted
and we are liberated from this mortal coil
we shall know the light of truth
flowing uninterrupted between our eternal souls.

. . . so, you better get your cosmic Shite together before all your friends and family see you in your karmic skivvies!
Yes!, the Mayan Apocalypse is just one week away, on . . . wait for it . . . Friday! . . . coincidence? 4 out of 5 Haberdites don't think so!
But, worry not! The Haberdashery has an exit strategy . . . albeit a shaky one . . . chilled, stirred, and garnished.

Yes, my Corporeal Cosmonauts! . . . Cocktail Hour is on for this Friday evening . . . just so we can share one last moment in the comforting glow of low expectations before we step through to the other side . . . Martini in hand.
As it was in the beginning, cocktails will be served at 7:30pm. Please feel free to stop by for a quickie en route to the eternal destiny of your soul . . . or to linger indefinitely, ephemerally, and transubstantiationaly.

Yours,
Los Cabañero

CAYA; Santa is Still a Ho!

COME ON!

The truth shines bright as driven snow
He spreads good cheer wher'ever he goes
All decked in red and trimmed in white
He's dressed for Love on Christmas night

With Rudolph's nose to guide his sleigh
A bright Red Light to lead the way
He won't take cash to pay the bill
With milk and cookies he gets his fill

No need to tell the girls and boys
About the Tart who brings their toys
But don't pretend YOU didn't know
That Old Saint Nick is just a Ho!

                                                                    (reprinted from CAYA 12.13.03)

Yes, my Rambunctious Reindeer! . . . Cocktail Hour is on for this Friday evening . . . but what sparkling experiential iceberg rises on that temporal horizon!??? . . . it's Alaska Martinis!! . . . back in season, and just in time to provide perfect punctuation to the end of another week in the Old St. Nick Sweatshop. Ho, what better way to toast in the holidaze delirium than with a frosty multicolored alchemical masterpiece prepared by our crack team of effervescent elves. Be sure to tip your hard working elf appropriately . . . although inappropriately is also much appreciated.

Cocktails will be served at 7:30pm. As always, please feel free to swing your sleigh by for a quickie en route to your primary Friday evening seasonal soiree . . . or to linger indefinitely . . . indubitably . . . and festively in the hazy lazy glow of another Haberdashery Holiday Party.

CAYA; Holidaze Show and Tell

Dear Lost Souls,

The whirlwind of nonstop holiday merriment and gluttony looms on the Holly-clogged horizon like a smarmy coked up St. Nick! So get ready to strap on your red nose, free base a couple of Pepcid, and pucker up for some mistletoe-fueled ass kissing of family, friends and business connections we are forced to tolerate but once a year!  . . . but not just yet! . . . for with an early Thanksgiving we are granted one extra week of reprieve before Decemblurr rockets us into . . . wait for it . . . 2013! . . . JazusMaryNjozef!!

Yes, my Mercurial Merrymakers! . . . Cocktail Hour is on for this Friday evening. This week the Saline Valley Vagabonds will be putting on a light and sound extravaganza, singing the timeless tales of their epic Thanksgiving adventures under the western desert skies of sacred Californiae. But, fear not the scorched earth of Gaia's drier humours! CAYA's highly trained cadre of alchemical high priests will be on hand to
quench your baser desires; offering a wide selection refreshing adult beverages . . . supplemental desires may be provided upon request.

Cocktails will be served at 7:30pm. Please feel free to stop by with your caravan for a quickie en route to your primary Friday evening oasis . . . or to linger indefinitely . . . infidelly . . . under the Haberdashery's sheltering canopy of low expectation.

CAYA; Zygmunt Bauman and the Curative Properties of Dolomite Schnapps

Dear Lost Souls,

Special thanks to the Karma Dogs (as well as the rock solid Haberdashery House Band) for last week's outstanding night of improv music, jamming, and old standards! It was some of the best music the Haberdashery 2.0 has enjoyed so far . . . SO FAR!!!! . . . more to come!

And so the Holidays are upon us! Next week is the lost week of our collective Thanksgiving. And so, in the spirit of lostness; The Haberdashery will be moving our solemn communion out to Death Valley National Park to loose ourselves in the infinite cosmic landscape, and give thanks to the spirits of the desert! We invite you to hoist a glass in solidarity from wherever you may find yourself! . . . But, why dwell on the future or past when the temptations of the here and now offer us stimuli beyond compare or comprehension.

Yes, my Potemkin Pilgrims, Cocktail Hour is on for this Friday evening! . . . with special guest Professor Alex Marini, the famous Zygmunt Bauman-onian Sociologist and radical thinker from Trento Italy.  Professor Marini will be critiquing the Bay Area's dearth of development-oriented sociologists and discussing the corporal benefits of Dolomite Schnapps (the congruences are astounding!). His seminar will be followed by Q&A, R&R, B&B, S&M . . . and M&Ms. As always, cocktails will be served at 7:30pm. Please feel free to stop by for a quickie en route to your primary reductive panel session . . . or to linger indefinitely, indubitably, and impulsively.

CAYA; Saving Daylight and the Peaceful Exercise of Democracy

Dear Lost Souls,

Rejoice! . . . for we have survived another campaign season!! Let us lift a glass and be grateful that the Great American Experiment in Democracy has once again successfully navigated the obstacles that threaten the sanctity of free and peaceful open elections . . . even if it seems as if this process, in its closing salvo of partisan bully-pulpitting, has sucked an hour of sunlight out of our day!

But we digress. On a brighter note . . . perhaps we dare to hope that reconciliation lies on the horizon, moving us forward with a progressive national agenda, buoyed by a spirit of bipartisan cooperation. Oh, let us all hope so. It sure would be nice to see some positive news coming from inside the beltway!

Yes, my Pernicious Pundits! . . . Cocktail Hour is on for this Friday evening. Whether your candidate or proposition won or lost, we invite you to come as you are! . . . to stop by and toast the end of campaign adds, fuzzy math, opinion polls, polls of polls, super pacs, and pointless pronouncements from mouthy mobheaded billionaires. We've all earned ourselves a good stiff drink! Cocktails will be served at 7:30pm. Please feel free to stop by for a quickie en route to your primary Friday evening venue . . . or to linger indefinitely.

CAYA; Tempests, Tigers, Giants, Witches and Goblins . . . Oh My!

Dear Lost Souls,

The turbulent seas are arising without mercy, while hurricanes reek havoc upon Gotham, and our sovereign eastern shores! . . . witches and goblins are roaming the streets, demanding tribute from the innocent, while threatening to unleash unspeakable deeds! . . . Giants with clubs are mercilessly crushing and devouring Tigers in the verdant parks of San Francisco and Detroit, then claiming our streets to boldly celebrate their victories over their outmatched foes! . . . and Elephants and Donkeys are smothering the poor citizens of our nation with mindless waves of partisan drivel! . . . Oh the humanity of it all!! When will it end!? Deliver us Sagittarius from the plagues of October's rage and grant us asylum from Scorpio's wrath.

Yes, my Halloweened Hell Raisers! . . . Cocktail Hour is on for this Friday evening. And what a week it has been!  . . . but fear not . . . for just on the other side of tomorrow's likely dawn awaits another gathering of our weekly covenant. So cling yet to thy hope, and come find shelter from this week's tempests beneath the Haberdashery's canopy of low expectations. As always, our dedicated team of alchemists and minstrels will be on hand to ease you out of your weekly woes . . . and into the comforting haze of another weekend by the Bay. Dear Lost Souls,

JUST when your hopes had started to fade. . . when your weekend seemed in danger of having no purpose . . . when it seemed like you would never reach the sweet candy filling beneath the week's hard shell . . . hope shines bright on yonder horizon!

Yes, my Willie Worker Bees! . . . Cocktail Hour is on for this Friday evening! So, do a little circle dance, grab a friend, and come zoom back to the hive for a relaxing evening of social alchemy in communion with the Haberdashery's master mixologists. CAYA; The Haberdashery Takes On Climate Change

Dear Lost Souls,

The unexpected success of last week's Frozen Drink Extravaganza has triggered a measurable shift in Mother Earth's temperature and CO2 fluctuations. With the Bay Area October heat wave in full swing, and another blast of political wildfire blowing through the nation this week, the Haberdashery's localized extreme low pressure system could not be arriving at a better time! CAYA's crack squad of alchemical climatologists is rapidly adapting with an extended trend towards blended and chilled tasty concoctions that promise to make you significantly less cognoscente of the high pressure systems that may have characterized your midweek.

Yes, my Fearless Felixonauts! . . . Cocktail Hour is on for this week! Now step out of your comfy capsules! . . . and come take the plunge with one of the Haberdashery's brain chilling odysseys into a vacuum of low expectations. Launch will take place at 19:30 hours PST sharp. As always, please feel free to do a fly-by en route to your evening's primary cosmic destination . . . or to linger indefinitely in the quiet drift of our expanding universe.

The Arts at the Haberdashery Inaugural Event!

Dear Lost Souls,

The Arts at the Haberdashery (H@B) is very proud to announce our inaugural celebration on September 28th, 2012, at the Jellyfish Gallery (1286 Folsom Street, SoMa), in the San Francisco SoMa District. You and your friends are invited to join us as we kick off SF's newest forum for the arts with a live music performance featuring an international cast of characters. Don't miss what is sure to be an outstanding two act live show featuring:

DJ Mr. Fabulous with Oakland Symphony Bassist David Arend (Starting at 10pm)

with opening act:

Johnny Walnut (Starting at 8:30pm)

Doors will open at 8:00pm. For those of you from the East Bay who don't want to go home after work, Azúcar Lounge is on the corner and serves great drinks, or come knock on the door at the Jellyfish Gallery and you can hang out while we set up (any time after 6:30pm). There is no entry charge for this event, but the H@B would appreciate any contributions to the community bar, or small cash contributions to the tip jar to offset expenses and to provide some compensation for our musicians for their hard work!

The mission of the Arts at the Haberdashery (H@B) is to leverage the Haberdashery weekly Cocktail Hour for the purpose of supporting the visual and performing arts. Working with the Jellyfish Gallery, the H@B is excited to have the opportunity to showcase the artistic talent and energy of the SF Bay Area. Watch for future events showcasing local artists . . . and let us know if you or someone you know has a talent we can feature!

Visit us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/artsathab

We'll see you on Friday!

Yours,
Los Cabañero at

CAYA; The Celestial Scales

Dear Lost Souls,

The celestial scales oscillate in their timeless rhythm . . . an intricate symphony of light and gravity . . . ellipses intersecting in golden arcs of cosmic dust sprinkled through the vast and empty darkness. And so, our little blue life raft wobbles along, offering up its tireless bounty of seasonal variations, as we sow and reap the harvest of our labors. So as the scales once again see eye to eye in the glory of the equinox, let us pause to contemplate our good fortune for being in the community of anointed cosmonauts piloting this magical biosphere on its journey toward the promise of our collective destiny.

Yes, my Quixotic Cosmonauts, Cocktail Hour is on for this Friday evening. And though the frenzied spin of our weekly toils threatens to eject us from the sweet comfort of Gaia's gracious gravities, the Haberdashery promises a soft landing at the end of another seven cycles of Apollo's golden orb. Come as you are . . . to find refuge in the collective shade of our low expectations in the eclectic company of familiar strangers, and worry not for the morrow.

Cocktails will be served at 7:30pm. Please feel free to stop by for a quickie . . . or to linger indefinitely.

Yours,
Los Cabañero

CAYA; 'Tis The Season of Brrrr!

Dear Lost Souls,

Each year, the Labor Day weekend firmly seals the fate of summer . . . an Irish wake to the golden glories of a season past, and a harbinger of the looming advent of Gaia's darker humors. Prepare the harvest, return to school, put away the Playa equipment, and take in the dock. 'Tis the season of Brrrrr . . . when even the names of the months foretell the chill that will bring the heralded crimson and gold of autumn's ephemeral reign.

Yes, my Solar Socialites, Cocktail Hour is on for this Friday evening . . . and what better way to celebrate the glory of summer's passing then in the company of your fellow Haberdites . . . the diligent custodians of the CAYA metronome, marking the passing of yet another seven celestial circuits of Apollo's golden chariot. Come join us as we hoist a toast to all that ends, to all that begins again, and to all the promise that will unfold with the glories and sorrows to be revealed in mysteries of the morrow.

Cocktails will be served at 7:30pm. As always, please feel free to stop by for a quickie en route to your primary destiny du jour . . . or to linger indefinitely under our verdant canopy of low expectations.

CAYA; Ooooh! ... Back in the Saddle Again!

In the immortal words of Aerosmith:

Ridin' into town alone
By the light of the moon
I'm looking for ole' Sukie Jones
She crazy horse saloon
Barkeep gimme a drink
That's when she caught my eye
She turned to give me a wink
That'd make a grown man cry

I'm back in the saddle again
I'm back
I'm back in the saddle again
I'm back

Yes, my Cosmopolitan Cowboys, Cocktail Hour is on for this Friday evening.
After a great hop over to the City last week,we are back in the saddle, back in Berkeley, and back under the comforting shade of low expectations that we call the Haberdashery. 'Tis the Season of the Haberdite!

Dear Lost Souls,

As the political season is heating up, summer is starting to cool down. 'Tis the season of the Straw Man . . . when quality discourse yields to petty jibes, and empty triumphs over heralded half truths or shameless misrepresentations. 'Tis the season of the Burning Man . . . when the tribes of NorCal hoist the banner of their Clan, navigating the swirling dust and infernal heat to cleanse their souls with karmic offerings penned on the temple wall; to be consumed upon the communal pyre. CAYA; Pagans, Patriots, and the Promise of a God-fearing Nation (ATTENTION - 9:00pm start time)

Dear Lost Souls,

Happy Independence Day!
With the rockets’ red glare, a hotdog in hand, and our nation’s capital about to spontaneously burst into flame, it is time to celebrate the anniversary of our great nation’s fiery birth in the crucible of hard-won liberty. It was on this day, oh-so-many years ago that, with the help of a few humble fisherman, Jesus Christ and the founding disciples crossed the mighty Delaware River to sign the ten commandments and declare our independence from those Cheeky Englishman; prompting Paul Revere’s fateful ride, to brave the shadow of British tyranny, and deliver us from another six weeks of winter.

While subsequent generations faced the sometimes formidable task of liberating and protecting God’s chosen land from the pagan agendas of heathens, infidels, and ‘natives’ who were incapable of understanding the simple majesty of Manifest Destiny, we eventually persevered, triumphing over mountain, river, and forest . . . digging deep into the earth's bowels to free God’s bounty . . . paving over wetland and prairie to provide convenient vehicular access to the shopping malls and drive throughs that pump their life-giving commerce through the cholesterol clogged veins of red-blooded American consumerism.

But, stay vigil my fellow Americans! Despite the unfettered fossil-fueled glory that our nation has enjoyed, our enemies lie in wait.  Progressive anarchists, climate-obsessed bohemians, and those unfortunates whom the Lord did not grant the benediction of being born within our cosmically ordained borders, raise the evil specter of their socialist and egalitarian agendas. They threaten to slow the oil-soaked wheels of righteous capitalistic glory, undermine the sanctity of proprietary-based marriage, regulate the whims of the world-saving selfless investment banker, and deny our downtrodden corporate citizens their God-given right to a political voice proportional (only) to the size of their hard-earned wealth. There is no sleep for the weary.

Yes, my Postmodern Patriots, Cocktail Hour is on for this Friday evening. We will be opening the gates a bit later than usual, at 9:00pm, to facilitate our attendance at the Oakland Art Murmur. We invite you to join us for a stroll through the galleries at the Murmur before heading back to the Haberdashery’s Hallowed Hall to hoist a chalice in honor of 236 years of flawless adherence to Judeo-Christian values. As always, we invite you to stop by for a quickie en route to your primary revolution . . . or to linger indefinitely.

Yours,
Los Cabañero

CAYA; Hoverboards and Healthcare Reform

Dear Lost Souls,

This Wednesday was June 27th, 2012; the day that Marty McFly fortuitously arrived in the future. Of course, this was just one day before the Supreme Court upheld the Affordable Care Act healthcare reform, and the Individual Mandate, so Marty could not have known. If Marty had arrived on June 28th, It would have been a VERY different movie! But, alas, while we continue to wait for our Hoverboards, and our self-tying sneakers, we can sleep well knowing that our fair nation has finally catapulted itself into the 20th Century . . . albeit behind almost every other industrialized nation in the world.

Yes my Surly Socialists, Cocktail Hour is on for this Friday evening! And as we find ourselves stranded in our current timeline, without the benefit of the Flux Capacitor, we invite you to gather together under the comforting shade of low expectations and gaze forward, resolute, to toast the promise of a better future for us all. Fulfilling their solemn covenant, the Haberdashery's High Priests will be on hand to fulfill your mixological destinies. Be not afraid of their strange instruments of alchemy; steel shakers, long agitators, strange fruits and elixirs both bitter and sweet, vessels of glass and stone, filled with the whims of the fates . . . 'tis a dark science that yields light and clarity in a world often devoid of either. We will celebrate your arrival, cherish your tenure and warmly await your return.

Cocktails will be served at 7:30pm. Please feel free to stop by for a quickie en route to your final temporal destiny . . . or to linger indefinitely.

Yours,
Los Cabañero

CAYA; Apollo's Soltice Joyride!

Dear Lost Souls,

The Solstice is upon us, that magical moment when Apollo’s golden chariot makes its longest and most triumphant arc across the sacred dome of heaven, before plotting his inevitable retreat to the dark promises of another hemisphere. On this glorious day, each of us are an axis mundi completing a celestial circuit between earth and star, terra firma bound to the galactic fortunes of tireless gravity and a tempestuous sun; giver of life and destroyer of worlds. And for all of this, the gods ask only for the offering of a toast to acknowledge our appreciation for the bounty that comes forth from nature's timeless heartbeat.

Yes, my Solar Powered Solstice Soldiers, Cocktail Hour is on for this Friday evening. Come hoist a glass for the official beginning of Summer’s reign. On this occasion, in reverence to the Haberdashery’s position in the international CAYA Consortium (CAYAC), we will have the pleasure of hosting dignitaries visiting from Greece, Alaska, Chicago, and New York.

As always, cocktails will be served at 7:30pm. Please feel free to stop for a quickie en route to your primary Friday evening venue, or to linger indefinitely . . .

Yours,
Los Cabañero

CAYA; Saturday Afternoon Barbecue! . . . Friday Evening Warm Up! . . . Gemini Style!

Dear Lost Souls,
We find ourselves in the heart of Gemini season! . . . that annual period when all of the Misfortunates from the other zodiac signs are invited to reflect upon the glory of the Geminis . . . their creativity, quick thinking, intelligence, versatility . . . their ability to effectively interpret, perceive, and communicate complex ideas . . . their gregarious nature . . . and above all . . . their astounding humility in the context of the lesser signs.
Well!, what better way to celebrate the glory of our celestial fortunes and pagan heritage than to gather around the sacred hearth, grilling hunks and chunks of meat . . . and unsuspecting vegetables . . . breaking bread as sisters and brothers under the timeless pantheon of cosmic deities as they chase each other endlessly across the horizons. The Haberdashery offers you an exclusive front row seat for the spectacle!; gods, goddesses, beasts, and mortals, all joined to share a moment of reprieve from the toils of our weekly burdens.
Yes, my Heroic Haberdites, Cocktail Hour is on for this Friday evening. And, in deference to the duality of the Gemini soul, we will be extending our usual festivities to incorporate a second day of feasting and oh-so-moderate debauchery. Let loose the fires of Hades! . . . and join us in this glorious ritual of food, fellowship and good cheer!
On Saturday, Le Barbecue will be fired up from 2pm, on into the dark hours. Please feel free to stop by anytime during the lazy afternoon or evening. We will have some general grill items, but you are invited to contribute something to the feast.  On Friday Evening, cocktails will be served at around 7:30pm. As always, please feel free to stop by for a quickie en route to your primary venue . . . or to linger indefinitely.
Yours,
Los Cabañero

CAYA; Venus and the Eternal Dance

Dear Lost Souls,

Precocious though she may be in her temptation of Apollo, Venus this past week cast her passing gaze upon our little blue marble  . . . an oh-so humble black dot passing before an immense fiery orb . . . perhaps gone mostly unnoticed . . . but nevertheless confirmation that we are indeed unwitting chorus players in an infinitely complex, rhythmic and precise celestial orchestration of light and bodies in dance. But, perhaps more impressive than these vast distances, unfathomable masses, and cosmic forces, is that we can simultaneously conceptualize these wonders within the limits of our corporal consciousness . . . planets and stars hurtling through infinite space, transmuted into pure thought, projected as manifestations of reality through the interaction of sanguine flesh and firing synapses . . . in our very own, infinitely complex, rhythmic and precise celestial orchestration of light and bodies in dance.

Yes my Cosmonaut Companions, Cocktail Hour is on for this Friday evening! And though infinitely smaller in their frequencies and orbits than their celestial cousins, our crystalline vessels laden with the alchemical culmination of our collective conscience await the steady guidance of the Haberdashery's pantheon of pilots . . . to navigate their bounty towards their terrestrial destinies. So! . . . let Venus and Apollo now stand in awe beneath OUR passing shadow, captivated by the harmonies that flow forth from our unremitting fountain of fellowship . . . nestled in the collective shade of low expectations that grace our temple mount.

Cocktails will be served at 7:30pm. Please feel free to stop by for a quickie en route to your final cosmic destiny . . . or to linger indefinitely.
Yours,
Los Cabañero
